The Republic of Rwanda is a land-locked country located in central Africa. The total number of the world endangered species of mountain gorillas has increased to 880, according to census data that was released by the Uganda Wildlife Authority in 2011 and posted by WWF Global on 13/11/2012. The number of mountain gorillas increased from the 2010 estimate of 786 after a count in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The critically endangered Apes live only in two locations, Bwindi Impenetrable and the Virunga Massif area, which covers the parts of Democratic Republic of the Congo in the Virunga National Park, Uganda in Mgahinga Gorilla Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park

Rwanda Gorilla trekking Safari Information

In the whole world, travellers can only trek the endangered species of the mountain gorillas (Gorilla Berengei Berengei) in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. In Rwanda, these primates can be trekked in the stunning Volcanoes National Park. Approximately 480 mountain gorillas live in the Virunga massifs and reside on the altitude range of 2,300 to 4,500 meters in the hilly areas of the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, as well as Virunga National Park (in the DRC).
