The 6 Days Mountain Elgon Hiking Safari is full safari package that will allow you to explore all the magnificent peaks of Mountain Elgon national park located on the border of Uganda and Kenya.
The Uganda hiking safari takes you through world’s massive solitary volcanic mountain also acting as water catchment area for the Nzoia River which flows to Lake Victoria and for the Turkwel River which flows into Lake Turkana.
The 6 days hiking safari will allow you to explore the most beautiful caves, cliffs, gorges and waterfalls that characterize Mountain Rwenzori national Park.
The hiking safari tour will take you through Jinja the home of adventure in Uganda to Sipi falls- which is a series of three stunning waterfalls lying on the edge of Mount Elgon National park.
6 Days Uganda Mountain Elgon Hiking Safari – Highlights:
Day 1: Transfer to Mountain Elgon National Park and en-route boat cruise in Jinja.
Day 2: Hike from Sasa Trail to Mude Cave (15.5 Km).
Day 3: Hike from Mude Cave to Wagagai Peak (18 km) about 4 hours:
Day 4: From Mude Cave descend to the Caldera and Hot Springs (10.5km) about 3 hours
Day 5: Hunter’s Cave Camp to Piswa Patrol Hut and afternoon Hike to Sipi falls.
Day 6: Transfer from Mountain Elgon to Kampala
6 Days Uganda Mountain Elgon Hiking Safari – Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Mountain Elgon National Park And En-route Boat Cruise in Jinja.

After your early morning breakfast, the driver guide will pick you up from your Kampala place of stay and depart Kampala driving on the eastern side of Uganda.
The drive journey of 255kms about 4-5 hours’ drive without enroute stopovers will take you through small townships of Mukono where you find Sseziwa falls-Buganda historical site, Mabira forest –the only forest reserve with over 300bird species, 312 tree species, and primate species, butterflies, the farmed plantations of tea and coffee in Lugazi to Jinja town.
You will have stopover at Jinja and here you will take boat cruise in the magnificent waters of the River Nile to source of the Nile.
The boat cruise will give you closer account of different bird species swimming in the riverside; watch the local fishermen throwing their nets in the waters of the Nile.
When you reach the point where the Nile starts its long journey, you will take nice photos for future memories, watch the unique birds.
Thereafter, retire back to starting point and drive through Jinja town to catch-up with the views of the unique structural design of the houses that were used by the Indians before they were evicted by president Idi-Amin Dada.
After lunch in Jinja town, embark on an afternoon drive to Mountain Elgon National Park. The drive journey will take you through Iganga town, farmlands along Iganga-Mbale route.
You will arrive in Mbale town –nearest town to Mountain Elgon and proceed with 50 kilometers drive to Sipi falls areas of Mountain Elgon National Park. On arrival to Sipi falls area, you will drive to your lodge to have dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Hike From Sasa Trail to Mude Cave (15.5 Km).
After an early morning breakfast, you will embark on an early morning hike through the Sasa trail. The trail will enable you to see the dramatic landscapes from the high altitude and moorland.
Ascend via the Sasa trail and then descend via the Piswa trail. This journey takes approximately 6 hours. From Budadiri following the trail that leads to Sasa River Camp where you climb up to Mude Cave campsite, depending on your level of fitness, you may either choose to continue climbing up to Jackson’s summit 4,192 m about 2-3 hours or relax at the camp as you enjoy the site and sound. Overnight stay at Mud Camp.
Day 3: Hike From Mude Cave to Wagagai Peak (18 km) About 4 Hours:
Following your early morning breakfast, continue with the thrilling hike of about four hours from Mude Cave through the moorland zone up to the main peak, Wagagai Peak (4,321 m).
Descend thereafter through the Jackson summit (4200 meter) and the Jackson pool to arrive at Mude Cave Camp at 3500 meters. Dinner and camping at Mude Cave Camp
Day 4: From Mude Cave Descend to The Caldera And Hot Springs (10.5km) About 3 Hours
Early in the morning after breakfast, descend from Mude Cave Camp through beautiful columns of the most rare and endemic plant species like the giant Lobelia Elgonensis.
Visit the hot springs and Suam Gorge before descending to the Hunters Cave Camp at 3850 meters. Dinner and camping at Hunters Cave Camp.
Day 5: Hunter’s Cave Camp to Piswa Patrol Hut and Afternoon Hike to Sipi Falls.

After breakfast in your Hunter’s Cave Camp, descend to Piswa Patrol Hut. Thereafter retire to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.
After lunch, embark on a lovely hike to Sipi falls. The hike is too magnificent as you move to the bottom of the splendid three waterfalls.
You will proceed with a quick steep climb to a series of stunning caves. As you proceed to the perplexing trail to the other waterfalls, you will pass through banana plantations. Retire back to the lodge after the activity for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Transfer From Mountain Elgon to Kampala
Following your early morning breakfast, embark on drive transfer Mountain Elgon National Park to Kampala.
The drive journey of about 4-5hours will take you through Mbale town, a charming town full of rich heritage and fascinating culture. With some beautiful view points on our way, you will reach Jinja town marvel at the splendid river Nile.
Thereafter, proceed with the drive through Mabira forest where you will enjoy a walk through this beautiful forest, watch different primates, birds and butterflies.
After exploring the forest, advance with the drive to Kampala and on arrival to the City, the driver guide will drive you to Entebbe international Airport to catch –up with your onward flight back home.
