The safari starts and ends in Rwanda’s Kigali international airport which is the closest airport to the park with daily flights.
Therefore your 3 days lowland Congo gorilla safari to Kahuzi Biega national park offers you a chance to set foot in two different countries of Africa with Rwanda in East Africa and Congo in West Africa.
Kahuzi Biega National Park is the only home to the eastern lowland gorillas in Congo living in their natural habitat.
Situated near the southern shores of Lake Kivu the park is home to nine (9) gorilla families that roam within the forest.
Only one gorilla family is what you will trek on your Congo gorilla safari and it will probably be the biggest gorilla family you will ever encounter with 36 gorilla members in which are 4 sets of twins.
You will gaze in amazement at the gorilla behavior, family life and social life though it will only last one hour.
Day 1: Arrival to Kigali airport and transfer to Bukavu. Upon arrival in Kigali international airport Rwanda you will meet and greet with your professional safari guide who will drive you to Bukavu in Congo.
Day 2: You will do your lowland gorilla trekking activity at Kahuzi Biega national park.
Day 3: Your driver guide will drive you back to Kigali where you do a Kigali city tour before being driven to the airport for departure.
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport in Rwanda, your driver guide will gladly welcome you and brief you about your safari.
Your driver will start the drive to Bukavu in Congo with a Congo Visa secured at Goma. These 7 hours of a road trip are memorable with great views along the Virunga massif. You will have dinner and an overnight stay in Bukavu.
Wake up to great breakfast in this new land early morning as your driver plans to drive you to the park headquarters for your gorilla trekking safari in Congo activity.
You will have to wake up very early and embark on the journey to the park headquarters for briefing by the park rangers who will take you through the park in search of the giant lowland gorillas. After trekking, your guide will be waiting to drive you back to your hotel for dinner and an overnight.
After your last breakfast in West Africa your driver guide will drive you back to East Africa (Rwanda). Depending on the time you arrive in Kigali, you can take a short Kigali city tour to the Gisozi genocide memorial center, shop some crafts have lunch and then drive back to Kigali international airport for departure.
