Kahuzi-Biega is derived from the 2 dominant mountains that form the park namely Mont Kahuzi (3,308m) and Mont Biega (2,790m).

Kahuzi Biega national park is a natural habitat to the largest population of the Eastern Lowland gorillas situated near the southern shores of Lake Kivu. Day 1: Your safari will start as soon as you arrive in Kigali international airport. You will be driven across the border to Congo in Bukavu.
Day 2: You will go for gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega national park.
Day 3: Your driver guide will transfer you to Goma
Day 4: You will spend the day hiking mount Nyiragongo and spend the night at the summit.
Day 5: Descend mount Nyiragongo and then your driver guide will transfer you back to Kigali international airport for your departure flight.
5 Days Congo Gorilla Safari Kahuzi Biega & Nyiragongo Hike – Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
On this first day of your safari in Congo, the safari will start from Kigali international airport in the neighboring Rwanda.
Your professional driver guide will brief you about the safari upon arrival then start the drive to Bukavu in Congo.
This is a long road trip southward to Cyangugu boarder to Bukavu where you will have dinner and an overnight at your prior booked accommodation facility.
Day 2: Memorable Gorilla Trekking
By 7:00am your driver guide will be ready to drive you to the park headquarters for your memorable Congo gorilla trekking safari experience.
Gorilla trekking briefing starts at 8:00am by the park rangers where after you get into the jungle in a total of 8 trekkers and armed ranger guides for about 2-5 hours.
After spending 1 hour having a great experience that you always imagined, you will return to the park headquarters where you will find your driver guide ready to return you to your lodging facility for relaxation, dinner and an overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Goma
After this amazing Congo gorilla safari encounter, you will spend the day driving to Goma using a 4×4 safari land cruiser. You will arrive in the evening, relax and have an overnight.
Day 4: Hike to The Volcano Mountain
Your driver guide will transfer you to Kibati which is the starting point for your hike.
You will then start the hike at around 9:00am taking about 6-7 hours to reach the summit depending on your physical fitness. Nyiragongo is one of the most active volcanoes in the world with red lava lakes.
You will spend the night on the summit cabins where a porter can help with the cooking and carrying luggage.
Day 5: Descend From The Top of The Volcano
On the last day of this amazing gorilla trekking safari in Congo, you will descend from the summit of mount Nyiragongo back to Kibati station.
Your driver guide will be ready to transfer you to your lodging facility for a meal, refreshment and start the drive to Kigali international airport for your departure flight.
